What is a level switch?

In general, level switches and pressure switches are instruments that are used in different tanks. Their main operation is to measure the height of fluids or the content of tanks and control it by turning the input and output  flow on/off.

Level switch application

Various level switches are produced according to consumer needs, including:

  • Vibrating
  • Optical
  • Float
  • Capacitive

How the level switch works

On/Off switching operation is usually used for starting, stopping and alarming. This method along with measuring instrument is continuously used to protect the process system.

The floating type level switch is an instrument for determining the liquid level in the tank, in which the change in the liquid level causes the float to move inside the device chamber. In general, the working system of all the floating level switches is similar, which includes a floating object.

Usually, this float is connected to a pipe and when the float rises, it blocks the entry of fluid into the tank. But when the fluid level in the tank goes down, the floating object goes down due to its weight and the fluid enters. In this way, you can send On/Off commands to electrical circuits and control different equipment.

Level switch applications:

  • Marine (commercial ships)
  • petrochemical
  • food and beverage
  • Water and Wastewater
  • Chemical

Magnetic floating level switch

One of the most common level switches is the magnetic float type level switch, this level switch is used to detect the presence and absence of fluids in a wide range of applications and industries.

This type of level switch uses the principles of magnetism to detect the presence or absence of a fluid in a certain type of tank. This level switch consists of a float with an internal magnetic element that will float and move up and down on its axis.

The float is specifically made to work with a specific fluid weight (density) that is determined by the float's size (volume) and weight. The stem, or tube, is hollow and contains an electrical switch element that is operated by an applied magnetic field.

In fact, the principle of operation of this type of level switch is that when the liquid level rises, the float tilts upwards.
